HYDRONIC RADIATORS
Hydronic
radiators are an excellent choice for renovation of existing structures and on
upper levels of some newly constructed buildings. In situations where radiant
heat is desired but it is not feasible to pour a concrete slab for in-floor
heat, radiators are the solution. Our radiators work as part of a
hydronic system. A low-temperature boiler heats
water and then pumps the water through specialized plastic tubing to the
radiator. The warm water heats the radiator, which radiates heat to the
building. The water recycles back to the boiler to be heated. Warm water is
continuously being heated and circulated through the radiators. Because the
highly efficient boiler uses either natural gas or propane, which are the
lowest cost commercial fuels available, hydronic
heat is very economical over the life of the system.
EUROPEAN DESIGN
The
new European radiators are a radical departure in six important ways from the
clunky steam heat radiators of the past:
SAFETY. They don’t get so hot that they will burn.
Even small children are safe in their vicinity. In fact, a radiator is
often used as the backrest for a bench under a mudroom coat rack. This
design allows for quick drying of wet garments, welcoming warmth while
removing winter coats and boots, and a guarantee of warm coats to offset even
the coldest morning frost.
SIZE. The old radiators were bulky and an imposing
presence in a room. The new radiators are wall-mounted (some only 2 inches
deep) and surprisingly small. Their engineering provides maximum heat using
minimum space.
QUIET. Hissing and clanking radiators are a thing of
the past. The new models are completely quiet. Residents forget they are
there.
ATTRACTIVE DESIGN. Because they are small and
wall-mounted, they are unobtrusive. The design uses clean lines, has a
universal aesthetic appeal, and is free of dust-catching nooks and crannies.
FLEXIBILITY. The old radiators provided only an
on/off valve. The new European radiators have a full-functioning, individual
thermostat on each unit, which allows the homeowner to set it and forget it.
Maximum home heating comfort and efficiency is the result because each room
can be heated according to its usage or desired warmth.
QUICK WARM-UP. Many people prefer radiators in the
bedroom so they can turn down the heat at night and then up in the morning.
With the new design, the radiators respond almost immediately. There isn’t a
long delay waiting for the heat to come up.
Linda J. of Asheville summed it all up when she said, “Having been raised
in Florida, I like to be warm. I
like the radiators because they produce instant heat. With individual
radiators in each room I have maximum control over the space. I can get up
next to them to take a chill off; they aren’t too hot. If my young
children happen to stand too close, they won’t get a burn. And yet they heat
the room very efficiently. They not only distribute heat evenly, but they are
also very attractive. I really enjoy this heating system.“
The European designed hydronic radiators are a
comfortable and efficient way to greet, and even enjoy, winter.
